Work for Us

WE’RE LOOKING FOR PLANNERS OF ALL LEVELS OF EXPERIENCE!

Town Planning Group are looking for planners of all skillsets and experience for our offices in Queenstown, Christchurch and Wanaka – from new graduates to senior level. We can accommodate part time, flexi time or full-time roles.

What do we do and who do we work for?
Check out our website at townplanning.co.nz for some examples. Our range of work and client base is a little bit out of the ordinary, which is how we like it to keep things interesting. Along with our local client base we work with large scale developers, local and government agencies and national/international corporations. We also work for a number of community and interest groups. We consider ourselves lucky in that we get to work with some great clients, with varied projects across the country.

Why join the team?
We have an extremely low turnover of staff and there is a good reason for that.

Our employment packages are very competitive and for the right people will be above market rates.

While we work hard, we expect the team to maintain a work-life balance. We recognise it’s the team that makes our company engine run smoothly, and like any engine, we know we need to look after it. We have a range of perks including:

* Flexi-time to allow staff to look after life admin and logistics, such as kids and family. Our team generally work between 20 to 40 hours.

* Opportunities to work remotely, work-from-home and personal travel.

* An annual payment to put towards initiatives of your choice to support your own physical and mental health, examples include ski passes, gym membership, insurances, mediation courses, etc,  * or even that coffee machine you always wanted but couldn’t quite justify the spend!

* Regular social event ‘The Thursday Club’ where we bring in guest speakers to casually chat about development projects we are working on, relevant planning decisions – all over a few refreshments and nibbles.

* Mentoring opportunities, involving senior staff but also other technical consultants in the resource management field, with the aim of professional and self-improvement in the industry.

* Cultural competency / Te Reo Māori training opportunities.

* A client management budget – because they need to be looked after as well.

* Free vehicle parking at all offices.

* Professional and personal development bonuses.

We are big on professional development and are currently supporting most of our team through additional post graduate studies and courses.

What type of planner are we looking for?
As a new graduate, up-and-coming intermediate or an old hand senior planner, there’s a few essentials you’ll need to fit in with the team and our clients:

* A positive can-do attitude – if you have this, we can teach you the rest.

* A strong interest in your career in planning – we enjoy talking about development and helping people get results. If you are wanting an enjoyable and fulfilling career in planning, we’ll facilitate that.

* Do what you say you are going to do, don’t just talk the talk – we have a team full of doers.

* A knack to think outside the box – most people can regurgitate a rule or a policy but we want you to understand the mechanics of how it all works, and how it can be applied in practice to give our clients the best advice possible.

* Strong written and verbal communication is a must – communication is the backbone of what we do.
